I’m quite an introverted person, and it takes me a considerable amount of effort to maintain an “active” social life (at least by typical societal standards). But I’ve realized that there’s one topic where—against all odds—I become so excited that those around me hardly even notice or imagine how reserved I actually am.
That topic is occultism! And I use this term to encompass something that, in itself, is an entire universe. A whole area of my life that, woven together by magic, contains my most devotional, wisest, most daring, and even bravest parts.
Listening to others talk about astrology, ceremonial magic, Western mystery traditions, mythology, anthropology, Qabalah, and all these subjects is thrilling. That shy part of me dissolves between the veils—something greater takes over, fills me with energy and passion, and I can speak… I want to speak. I get excited by the debate, by discovering new paths of understanding I might never have reached on my own.
It’s not about who’s right—that doesn’t matter. What moves me is how conversation transforms us, nourishes us. How understanding another’s experience, whether or not it resonates with us, allows us to grow on many levels—of being and of doing. How could I not be thrilled by that?
My legal name is José Antonio, born in Venezuela and living in Chile for over ten years. Although my path has drawn from various spiritual sources, the core of my magical and spiritual practice is the Gardnerian Tradition, in which I am initiated and hold the degree of High Priest.
For this project, I’ve chosen the pseudonym Neokoros, inspired by the sacred title once given in ancient Greece to the caretakers of temples. It literally means “the one who sweeps the temple,” referring to those who kept these devotional spaces in perfect condition so the gods might dwell in them within the world of mortals.
This corner of the internet is like my digital temple, and my devotional act will be to talk about the subjects I’m so deeply passionate about.
